Instagram Photo Dimensions For 2019
I don't know about you but boy were we ecstatic when Instagram set us free from square (i.e. box) photos only jail. There are now three dimensions to choose from when doing feed posts.
Square: 1080px by 1080px (1:1)
The OG square photos are a great go-to dimension if you want to avoid unwanted cropping when users view your whole grid.
Portrait 1080px by 1350px (4:5)
Portrait is our favorite dimension because it occupies the most real estate on viewers screens as they scroll in their feed. If you want to grab attention consider using a 4:5 ratio. Remember, the post appears square in the grid.
Landscape 1080px by 566px (1.91:1)
This size is great for landscape photographers and large group photos but can be problematic due to the small size since they are easier to miss in the scroll.
One of the common mistakes we see is people posting multiple photos (carousel) using images, graphics or video that were created in a mix of the above sizes, so it crops all of the content in the set to one size. Remember to create your set of content with this in mind.
Another cropping issue is with reposting. Make sure you are using the same sizing as the original post, so you don't cut it off.
We recommend mixing it up based on the actual image or video, as some may lend themselves to a particular dimension over others.
